Description

Wykamol Renovation Plaster

Wykamol Renovation Plaster is a BBA approved, fibre reinforced, lightweight, cement / lime plaster formulated for a range of applications, including re-plastering after the successful installation of a Chemical Damp Proof Course (DPC).

Wykamol Renovation Plaster is designed to have similar properties to a 1:1:6 cement : lime : sand plastering mortar. Lightweight, perlite aggregates replace a portion of the sand to reduce heat loss and condensation.

Fibres are incorporated into the product to control shrinkage and improve flexural strength. In addition, special waterproofing additives along with a porous structure effectively control dampness and salt migration whilst allowing the wall to dry out.

Wykamol Renovation Plaster can also be used in conjunction with Wykamol’s Basement systems such as the .

Wykamol Renovation Plaster is part of the Wykamol Re-Plastering Specification which is supported by BBA Certification Certificate No: 02/3961.

Product Benefits:

  • BBA Approved.

  • Contains perlite for improved thermal performance.

  • Prevents formation of black mould.

  • Reduces risk of condensation.

  • Easy to use - very light weight and premixed for quality control.

  • Prevents damp and salt migration.

  • Fibre reinforced - eliminates cracking.

  • Inhibits rusting of angle beads, conduits etc.

  • Supplied in a 20kg bag for safe manual handling.

Typical Uses:

Wykamol Renovation Plaster is used as part of a Damp Proofing System for re-plastering after a Chemical DPC, using products such as , , or our . Ideal for areas which are prone to condensation, such as kitchens and bathrooms.

Application

Substrate Preparation:

As Part of a DPC:
Remove all existing plaster affected by hygroscopic salts, as well as plaster up to 300mm above the last detectable sign of rising damp/ salt contamination, in accordance with BS 6576.

Where extremely high levels of salt contamination are present, or suspected, further preparation may be required or alternatively may be a better solution.

Universal Mortar Backing Coat:
To prepare substrate for an application of Renovation Plaster, 5 - 10mm of  should be applied. Remove by suitable means, any remaining plaster, wood, dust, grease, oil, organic growth or other foreign materials that may cause contamination or adversely affect adhesion properties.

Priming:

  • Using a brush, roller or spray apply , mixed 1:1 (by volume) with water.

  • Allow to become tacky to the touch. This will take approx. 30 minutes to 2 hours.

For Universal Mortar application instruction please refer to the relevant . Ensure Universal Mortar is well keyed and stable, but not fully set, prior to application of Wykamol Renovation Plaster. This is achieved between 3 - 12 hours.

General Use and Tanking Systems:
Follow the substrate preparation outlined above and stop all active water leaks using (rapid setting plugging compound). Once all leaks are plugged, prime substrate and apply backing coat, as outlined above. Apply in line with relevant data sheet instructions. Ensure HydraDry is fully set before applying Renovation Plaster. This is achieved in approximately 48 hours.

Mixing:

When mixing Renovation Plaster use ONLY CLEAN WATER, a clean mixing vessel and a mechanical mixer.

Required water additions: 9.0 - 11.0 Litres per 20Kg Bag.

  1. Place the recommended amount of clean water into mixing bucket.

  2. Using an electric paddle mixer, gradually start to add the powder whilst mixing under low shear to reduce dust generation.

  3. Add all powder, increase mixing shear and mix for approx. 1 - 3 minutes to achieve a uniform lump free plaster.

Note: Excessive mechanical mixing should be avoided.

Mechanical mixing time must not exceed 5 minutes as will compromise the thermal properties of the product. Excess water addition can lead to efflorescence in the top coat finish.

Application Method:

Wykamol Renovation Plaster should be used as detailed and in accordance with the recommendations in BS EN 13914-2 Code of Practice for Interior Plastering.

As Part of a DPC:
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD THE DAMP PROOF COURSE BE BRIDGED.

All Applications:
Apply Wykamol Renovation Plaster using standard rendering techniques to a minimum thickness of 10mm. A maximum of 15mm can be applied in one working operation. If more than 15mm thickness is required, apply a rough 1st coat at a maximum thickness of 10mm.

Ensure layer is well keyed and stable, but not fully set, prior to application of subsequent layers. This is achieved between 4 and 12 hours.

Conditions & Limitations:

USING MULTI-FINISH AS A TOP COAT IS NOT RECOMMENDED.

The product should not be applied in temperatures under 5°C and falling or if temperatures are expected to fall below 5°C within 24 hours. Ensure the substrate temperature is not below 5°C before commencing application.

Finishing

Finishing:

Leave Wykamol Renovation Plaster to set for a minimum of 48 hours before applying .

NOTE: is the only tested finishing plaster which will interact with Wykamol’s Replastering System as intended.

If finish coats other than High Impact Plaster Finish are applied, we cannot guarantee the system will work as intended.

Where scratch coats are left as a finish a high quality wood float finish may be used.

After insertion of a DPC the residual water in the wall must evaporate before normal dry conditions are achieved.

All replacement skirting etc. should be either pretreated or treated with a suitable preservative e.g. .

Redecoration:

Allow to dry for a minimum of 24 hours before applying decorative finishes. Breathable paint must be used if High Impact Plaster Finish has been applied as part of the Replastering System, after a DPC. If redecoration is to occur 12 months after the DPC installation, non-breathable finishes may be used.

If permanent and impermeable finishes are being considered, e.g. non-breathable paints or wallpaper, the moisture content of the plaster and background must be in line with the recommendations of the supplier of the chosen finish.

Curing & Ventilation:

While curing, ensure Renovation Plaster is protected from strong, drying winds. Cure for a minimum of 48 hours before applying . If Renovation Plaster coat is thick (more than 15 mm), ambient conditions are cold and damp, or when applying to a tanking slurry, this will extend curing time (approx. 72 hours).
